Welcome and Thank You!

James L. Long Upholstery Studio has been providing quality upholstery services for Lancaster County since 1972. We specialize in using exotic leathers and skins such as ostrich, crocodile, alligator, shark, sting ray, python, cobra, frog, lizard, elephant, kangaroo and more! Of course we also work with traditional upholstery materials such as vinyl, leather, etc.

With multiple decades of experience in upholstery work for automotive interiors (including street rods!), furniture, boat upholstery, and motorcycle seating you can be assured that you will receive quality service!

James L. Long Upholstery is located in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, PA but does work for customers all around the country and abroad!

Thank you for visiting our web site! It has been made possible by all of our great customers over the past four decades. Most of the pictures being shown are the more unusual projects we have been involved with. The majority of the exotic work we do is on motorcycle seats but we also schedule complete automotive interiors. However, we can only take on large automotive projects on a limited basis due to the complexity and time involved to complete a full interior.

Whether you are looking for a basic no frills quality interior or a built from scratch show winning interior with leather and exotic hides we are also equipped to do the job! Likewise we can handle any upholstery project. For example, perhaps you would like to have an office chair re-upholstered for that special executive that would his or her favorite office chair upholstered in luxurious leather, ostrich hides, or combinations of leather and exotic hides. Matching window cornices are also available based on your requirements.

We hope you take the time to view all the pictures in our photo gallery and we have hundreds more to add as time allows. Of particular note are the Harley Davidson trike pictures. One of the oldest projects we worked our magic on with genuine leather, this bike was a Daytona bike show winner in 1981. Eventually we will be adding an automotive line of pictures including another relic, a 1926 model T Ford street we custom upholstered way back in '73. These are just two of the many examples that show we are not a  “Johny come lately”. We have been creating cutting edge upholstery since 1972!

The pictures we’ve selected are only a sampling of what we have done. The majority of the seats shown are completely upholstered in premium genuine leather with a variety of genuine exotics for the seating surfaces. These types of jobs are not easy to upholster. Exotic hides are much tougher to work with and require much more time and effort than standard vinyls. These seats are works of art, not mass produced, and require time in the studio to get these results. Normal turn around time for an exotic motorcycle seat averages two weeks. Some more, some less.

The BMW motorcycle seats in the photo gallery were completely fabricated from just the seat pan. We are not showing the multitude of seats for repair or seats we merely copied from the original.

Keep in mind we don’t always get to see the awesome creations these seats go on. We receive seats from all over the US and abroad. We photograph these seats in the studio with a back drop of genuine leather when we can. However, sometimes we are just simply too busy to photograph our work before the customer picks it up or we have to ship it out.

Customers come to us with all sorts of upholstery needs. Some customers come to us because they are very happy with the stock shape of the seat but they need or want a new cover. Others request new foam, gel pads, heaters, or just reshaping of the foam and seat! On occasion we lower the foam height and still retain the factory cover. Please contact us to determine if this is possible with your seat.

When contacting us for a price quote please include the year of the the bike, model, factory or aftermarket seat. Also, if possible a picture is worth a thousand words!

We hope this gives you some ideas and thanks again for allowing us to cater to your needs.

Jim Long
